2017
In 2017, the facelift S 600 was discontinued, while the S 650 was introduced (with the engine of the former S 65 AMG). The Mercedes-Maybach S650 is the top-tier, ultra-luxury variant of the previous-generation Mercedes-Benz S-Class (W222), designed to compete with the likes of Rolls-Royce and Bentley. It is characterized by its massive 6.0L V12 engine and a wheelbase extended by approximately 20 cm (7.9 inches) compared to the standard long-wheelbase S-Class, with all that extra space dedicated to rear-passenger legroom. The S650 was the flagship of the Maybach sub-brand until the introduction of the S680 nameplate for the newer W223 generation. The interior is often compared to a "private jet on wheels," featuring high-end materials and advanced technology. Since being succeeded by the newer S-Class generation, used 2020 S650 sedans typically range from roughly $83,000 to over $150,000 depending on mileage and condition, significantly down from their original ~$200,000+ MSRP. Collectors seek out the rare Cabriolet models, which can still command prices near or above $250,000.
