The Microcar ALCO was an electric microcar produced in 1994, with a second-generation electric vehicle later distributed by Microcar in Europe under the same name.
1994 ALCO electric
In 1994, the French manufacturer Microcar produced an electric vehicle simply named "Alco electric". Few details are widely available about this specific model, as electric vehicles in that era were not produced in large numbers.
Microcar ZENN (later branded as ALCO)
The more widely known Microcar electric vehicle with the ALCO nameplate was the result of a collaboration with the ZENN Motor Company in Canada.
Assembly and production: From 2006 to 2010, the ZENN Motor Company used the long-wheelbase chassis of Microcar's MC series to assemble its own Neighborhood Electric Vehicle (NEV) in Canada.
European distribution: Microcar began distributing the ZENN vehicle in Europe in 2007, marketing it under the name Microcar ZENN. The model was also known by the ALCO name.
Performance: The vehicle was governed to a top speed of 25 mph (40 km/h) to meet NEV regulations in the U.S. and Canada.
Successor: In 2009, Microcar began producing its electric vehicles in-house with the M.Go Electric, and ZENN ceased production of its Microcar-based NEV in 2010.
