Birkirkara was one of the ten parishes mentioned in a document of the year 1436, the Rollo of Bishop Senatore Mello, and the parish church of that time was dedicated to Saint Helen. In the 18th century, the church of Saint Helen that is there today was built, where it then became a Collegiate Church in 1630.
