This parish formed part of the Parish of Lija and was established as an Autonomous Pastoral Area by Decree of 25 January 2003 and with effect from 15 February of the same year. It became a parish on March 19, 2005. The church and the high altar were consecrated by Archbishop Charles J. Scicluna on May 6, 2017.
