Msida became a parish in 1867 and until the year 1889 there was the old church of the Conception as a parish church. The church that is there today, dedicated to the Patronage of Saint Joseph, was opened for worship in the year 1889. By decree of 19 March 2019 the Parish Church became Archpriestly.
