Carmelo Brincat was a Maltese member of parliament (MP) from the Malta Labour Party, serving multiple terms from 1976 to 2016. He held various roles, including minister for finance and commerce (1997-1998) and minister for sustainable development, the environment, and climate change (2013-2016). He was nominated to the European Court of Auditors in 2016 and subsequently stepped down from his parliamentary seat.
