The Israel–Hamas war began on 7 October 2023 when Hamas launched an unprecedented multi-faceted and sustained assault on Israel from the Gaza Strip. As of 8 April 2024, over 34,000 people (33,091 Palestinian and 1,410 Israeli) have been reported as killed in the Israel–Hamas war, including 95 journalists (90 Palestinian, 2 Israeli and 3 Lebanese) and over 224 humanitarian aid workers, including 179 employees of UNRWA.

May 8

Israel rejected a ceasefire deal with Hamas and stated that it would continue its offensive in Rafah.

The US has paused it's weapons delivery to Israel to limit it's operations in Rafah.

One person was killed and many were injured after an Israeli shelling hit the town of Khuza’a, east of Khan Yunnis.
