Not for Radio is the official solo project of María Zardoya, the lead singer of the indie-pop band The Marías.
Launched in late 2025, the project serves as an "alternate reality" for Zardoya, allowing her to explore a more intimate, experimental, and less "radio-friendly" sound than the polished, genre-blending tracks associated with The Marías.
The name Not for Radio reflects Zardoya’s desire to create music without the pressure of writing commercial hits. In interviews, she has described the project as music meant to be experienced "under a tree" or in a garden—focusing on personal atmosphere rather than pop appeal.
Zardoya has been clear that The Marías are not breaking up. Not for Radio is a parallel project that allows her to express a different side of her artistry while the band continues to work on new music and tour.
