France produced one of their most convincing performances of the tournament, defeating Sweden 3–0 to book a place in the World Cup last 16. Kylian Mbappé scored twice, while Bradley Barcola added the other goal in a match that France controlled from start to finish.

Mbappé opened the scoring just before half-time and struck again in the 74th minute after excellent creative work from Michael Olise, who provided two assists. France also hit the woodwork twice and created numerous chances, underlining their attacking dominance.

The brace took Mbappé to six goals at the 2026 World Cup, drawing level with Lionel Messi in the tournament's Golden Boot race. It also lifted his career World Cup tally to 18 goals, leaving him just one behind Messi's all-time record.

France's reward is a Round of 16 clash with Paraguay national football team on 4 July, while Sweden's World Cup campaign comes to an end.
