✈️ Eight people killed in remote Alaska plane crash
All eight people on board were killed when a charter aircraft crashed on Thursday, 20 August 2026, near the Cape Newenham Long Range Radar Site in western Alaska, around 450 miles (725 km) west of Anchorage.
What is known so far:
The aircraft was a twin-engine Cessna 441 operated by Security Aviation.
It was flying from Anchorage to Cape Newenham.
There were two pilots and six passengers on board.
The flight had been chartered by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and two of its employees were among those killed.
The plane crashed on land near the airport serving the remote Air Force radar station.
The NTSB is investigating, and the cause has not yet been determined.
An important detail is that this was not a military aircraft crash. It was a civilian charter flight travelling to support personnel and operations at the remote military radar site.
Lt Gen Robert Davis, commander of Alaskan Command, described the incident as a devastating loss for the military community and the communities served by the site.
Because Cape Newenham is extremely remote, access and the investigation will likely be more complicated than at an ordinary airport. At this stage, there is no confirmed explanation for why the aircraft crashed.
