Iran Conflict Faces New War-Crimes Allegations

UN-backed human-rights experts said there are “reasonable grounds” to believe that the United States may have committed war crimes during two strikes in Iran at the beginning of the conflict. The experts said the attacks killed at least 178 civilians, including women and children, with one strike hitting an identifiable school and another hitting a sports complex and residential area.

The allegations have added another major diplomatic complication to the continuing Middle East conflict. The U.S. government has not acknowledged responsibility for the alleged incidents and has not released the Pentagon's investigation findings, according to AP.

The wider conflict is also continuing to affect neighbouring countries and global energy security, with developments involving Yemen, Saudi Arabia, Israel, Lebanon and the Strait of Hormuz adding to regional uncertainty.
