UN Estimates Gaza Reconstruction Will Cost $71.5 Billion

A UN assessment estimated that rebuilding Gaza will require approximately $71.5 billion, after extensive destruction of homes, businesses, infrastructure and productive capacity. The report described the territory’s economic crisis as exceptionally severe, with recovery expected to depend on security conditions, access for aid and long-term international financing.

The estimate highlights that reconstruction would extend far beyond repairing individual buildings: it would involve restoring utilities, healthcare, education, transport, housing and employment. The issue was raised during the continuing UN General Assembly meetings, where the humanitarian and political future of Gaza remained a central international concern.
