France Pushes for International Mission to Protect Strait of Hormuz

France is preparing a draft UN Security Council resolution aimed at creating an international mission to safeguard freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz. The proposal is being discussed with the United States after talks between French President Emmanuel Macron and U.S. President Donald Trump during the UN General Assembly.

The initiative comes as shipping and energy markets remain under pressure from the wider regional conflict. Previous efforts faced opposition from China and Russia, which argued that earlier proposals were too closely aligned with U.S. policy toward Iran; French diplomats are reportedly seeking more neutral wording this time.
