Typhoon Dujuan Threatens Eastern Japan With Flooding and Landslides
2026, September 21Japan
Typhoon Dujuan approached Japan’s Pacific coast, bringing torrential rain, powerful winds and heightened landslide risks, particularly in the Kanto region around Tokyo. More than 300 millimetres of rain had fallen in some locations, and authorities issued the highest-level landslide warning for parts of the Izu Islands.
The storm disrupted transport and forced the postponement of an Asian Games equestrian event. Japan’s prime minister also delayed travel to New York for the United Nations General Assembly as authorities monitored the storm’s projected path and the risk of flash flooding.
