North Korea Fires Two Ballistic Missiles Amid Rising Regional Tensions
2026, September 20North Korea
North Korea fired two short-range ballistic missiles from its eastern coast within roughly three hours, according to South Korean and Japanese authorities. The missiles traveled approximately 450 kilometres and more than 600 kilometres respectively, with at least one landing outside Japan’s exclusive economic zone.
Pyongyang said recent U.S.-led military exercises with South Korea and Japan were provocative and reaffirmed its intention to strengthen its nuclear capabilities. Seoul and Tokyo condemned the launches as violations of UN Security Council resolutions.
