UN Investigators Accuse U.S. of War Crimes in Iran Strikes
2026, September 18Iran / United States
A UN fact-finding mission says there are reasonable grounds to believe U.S. forces committed war crimes during two strikes in Iran in February. One attack hit the Shajareh Tayyebeh primary school in Minab, killing more than 150 people, including around 120 children, while another strike on a sports facility in Lamerd also caused civilian deaths and injuries. The investigators said the incidents amounted to indiscriminate attacks under international law.
The same UN investigation also accused Iranian authorities of crimes against humanity during the crackdown on anti-government protests that began in late 2025. The findings are due to be presented to the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva. The U.S. has previously said its military operations comply with the laws governing armed conflict, while the Pentagon's investigation into the incidents has not been publicly released.
