Hormuz Diplomacy Intensifies as Iran Offers a Seven-Day Route Back to Talks
2026, September 26Iran / United States / China
Iran has proposed reopening the Strait of Hormuz within seven days if the United States lifts its naval blockade, releases frozen Iranian funds and eases oil sanctions. Tehran’s offer was made through diplomatic channels during the UN General Assembly, but an Iranian official told Reuters that Iran would not make concessions on key nuclear issues, including uranium enrichment.
The issue has global significance because Hormuz is one of the world’s most important energy corridors. China has urged Washington and Tehran to return to an earlier ceasefire framework, while the United States has warned Beijing against supporting Iran. The diplomatic push comes as shipping through the strait remains heavily disrupted.
