Yemen Crisis Deepens as Houthi Forces Threaten Regional Trade

The humanitarian situation in Yemen is worsening as Houthi forces continue their advance along the Red Sea coast. The conflict has killed nearly 700 people, displaced more than 120,000 inside Yemen and forced thousands more to flee by sea to Africa, according to figures cited by the UN and the World Food Programme.

The escalation threatens the Bab el-Mandeb maritime corridor, a key route linking the Red Sea with the Gulf of Aden. The WFP says more than 18 million people in Yemen face acute food insecurity, while aid operations are being obstructed by the seizure of UN offices and detention of staff in Houthi-controlled areas.
