UN Assembly Highlights Growing Strain Over War, Climate and AI
2026, September 27United States / United Nations
The UN General Assembly has focused on the wars in Ukraine, Gaza and Sudan, as well as climate change, inequality and the rapid development of artificial intelligence. Secretary-General António Guterres urged world leaders to build a system based on interdependence and warned that military power alone cannot resolve the world’s major crises.
The gathering also exposed widening divisions over the role of international institutions. U.S. President Donald Trump emphasized national strength and criticized bodies such as the International Criminal Court, while leaders debated reforms to the UN Security Council and stronger international coordination on AI governance.
