Thailand Floods Kill at Least 23 and Disrupt Bangkok’s Main Airport

Flooding across Thailand has killed at least 23 people since 16 September and affected 42 provinces, according to Reuters. Bangkok received about 320 millimetres of rain in three days, while damage has been estimated at roughly $367 million.

Although floodwaters are beginning to recede, Suvarnabhumi Airport has faced severe disruption, with Thai Airways cancelling around 30% of flights and thousands of bags still unprocessed. The government has approved an emergency aid package and a long-term drainage project intended to reduce the risk of future flooding in Bangkok and surrounding areas.
