Russia Escalates Ukraine Attacks as Winter Energy Campaign Begins

Russia launched a major overnight missile-and-drone assault against Kyiv and surrounding regions, killing at least four people, including a child, and damaging energy infrastructure. Ukrainian officials described the attack as one of the largest coordinated strikes on the country's energy system since last winter, with widespread power disruption reported.

Ukraine says Russia is attempting to undermine electricity, heating and water supplies before winter. Kyiv is seeking additional air-defence systems, particularly Patriot interceptors, while continuing its own attacks against Russian oil and military infrastructure. The escalation comes despite continuing diplomatic efforts to find a path toward a ceasefire.
