Hormuz Crisis Keeps Global Energy Markets on Edge
2026, October 3Iran / United States / Gulf region
The confrontation between Iran and the United States continues to threaten one of the world's most important energy routes. Iran is preparing for a potentially stronger military response if Washington resumes large-scale attacks, while diplomatic efforts to revive a ceasefire remain uncertain. Recent shipping disruptions have kept pressure on oil and gas markets, with September LNG traffic through the Strait of Hormuz nevertheless reaching its highest monthly level since the war began.
The stakes extend far beyond the Middle East: the waterway carries a major share of global oil and LNG shipments, meaning prolonged disruption could feed into fuel prices, inflation and winter energy security worldwide. The G7 has already announced a coordinated release of 100 million barrels of diesel and other reserves through the International Energy Agency to help stabilize energy markets.
