Russia Unleashes One of Its Deadliest Air Attacks on Ukraine
2026, October 7Ukraine / Russia
Russia launched a major missile-and-drone assault across Ukraine, killing at least 20 people, including children, and injuring around 50. The northern city of Pryluky suffered the highest casualties after a missile destroyed a five-storey residential building; strikes also hit Kyiv, Oleksandria and Kremenchuk. Emergency power cuts were reported in five regions after energy infrastructure was damaged.
The attack came as Ukraine prepares for another difficult winter and is seeking additional Patriot air-defence systems. Kyiv said it intercepted more than 80% of the jet-powered drones used in the attack, but ballistic missiles remain a major challenge. The EU also announced a new €1.2 billion tranche of support for Ukraine.
