Ebola Outbreak Spreads Across Congo as Health Response Struggles

The Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo is spreading into new hotspots where patients have little or no access to medical support. Health responders describe the situation as increasingly chaotic, with the disease having already killed more than 4,000 people.

The international concern has increased following the emergence of cases outside Congo, including Kenya's first confirmed case. The outbreak is placing enormous pressure on already fragile health systems, while insecurity and limited access to affected communities are making vaccination, treatment and contact tracing more difficult.
